WELCOME TO MY TRAINING SITE!!!

My name is Misty Newkirk Young.  I am actively involved in dog agility and training.  I have been training dogs since I got my first border collie, Bailey, in 1999. She is a wonderful pet, the perfect pet really. She taught me all about patience, understanding a shy dog, and about shaping with a clicker. Bailey would have never made progress being trained traditionally with corrections. I started agility with her to build her confidence, and I was immediately hooked. It was then that the irrational decision to bring home another dog was made. I lived in a tiny apartment in the city at the time.

    Enter Sally.
Sally rocked our peaceful existence, and though I didn't know this at the time, would be the best training education I will ever recieve. Anyone who knows me, knows Sally. She transformed from the bad puppy I was told to give back, to the amazing companion and team mate of my dreams.  She made me work hard to learn more about animal behavior, agility and consistency. I am so glad we stuck each other out. Having survived one red girl, I decided on another, Moxie, who is turning out to be quite the little agility dog herself! I look for great things from this girl. She is an amazing team mate, and makes me work equally hard on course. We added a male to our pack of BCs, named Hustle, who is now in training. He's my little man right now, my shadow, and quite the lover boy. I expect him to be as fantastic on course as he is to live with at home.
I worked at the Louisville Zoo from 1999-2009, working with a variety of wild animals such as giraffes, tigers, bears, orangutans, reptiles and more.  My education and experience there was amazing, and I am forever grateful that I was blessed with such an education. I believe training the exotics has helped me immensely with dogs. I worked in veterinarian offices, both ER and general practice, for over 6 years. I am certified in canine massage, and have experience in canine rehab, stretching and exercise ball work. I am also Reiki attuned. I am an avid clicker trainer, and I am always looking for new ways to train old behaviors. I have always been intrigued by the notion of teaching animals to learn, and to offer behaviors for reinforcement. I advocate positive reinforcement in the learning stages. There is nothing more exciting than to see an animal learn AND have fun. Long before I had dogs, I had a ferret that could come when called, roll over and sit pretty, among other things. I believe my animals have made me who I am today. But enough about me, this site was meant to be all about my amazing dogs and dog training. Thanks for stopping by!
